Grade 5 Classroom Case: The Role of Consolidation Discussions

The purpose of a Consolidation Discussion is to help students solidify their understanding of the steps they took during an investigation and the underlying science concepts. As they talk through their procedures and ideas, students realize what is clear and what is not. The questions What did we do? Why did we do it? What did we find out? provide a framework for clearing up confusions and consolidating learning. Communicating scientific procedures, findings, and ideas is a fundamental practice of science.
